The Pheasantry

at Church Manor Barn

SUSTAINABLE LUXURY

The Pheasantry is part of the family-owned Church Manor Farm. It’s a peaceful location, nestled in the Norfolk countryside, 12 miles west of Norwich’s picturesque and historic city.

Since moving to the beautiful farmhouse in 1999, owners Peter and Louise have strived to become carbon negative and positively impact the environment. The entire estate is now powered by its own energy sources, none of which spoil the tranquillity of this gorgeous slice of countryside life. By creating a sumptuous holiday apartment and an elegant wedding venue, they have shown that sustainability and luxury work hand in hand.

OUR STORY

We moved to Church Manor Farm in 1999 to fulfil a lifelong dream of escaping to the countryside. On our estate, one of our fields is used to grow rotating crops and another for grazing sheep and lambs. From the Pheasantry windows, you’ll spot sheep and lambs grazing during the spring and summer months.

In 2018 we held a family wedding in the Barn, which led us to transform the building into an elegant wedding venue for others to enjoy. Inspired by this transformation, we also designed a luxury apartment for friends and family to enjoy, employing local craftsmen to turn the top of an unused farm building into something unique. We made sure we converted it to a very high standard, furnished it beautifully, and packed it with lots of special touches. In essence, we created somewhere we’d like to stay ourselves and have done so on several occasions!

Once we realised how relaxing and special the result was, and encouraged by everyone who’d tried it out, we decided to offer it to people beyond those we already knew. To that end, we have made it available to couples looking for a luxurious and peaceful getaway combined with the flexibility and privacy of a self-catering break with breakfast staples provided.

We hope everyone who experiences The Pheasantry loves it as much as we do.

THE GOLDEN PHEASANTS

We named The Pheasantry after a rare breed of brightly coloured game bird, the Golden Pheasant. The only places you will find them in England are East Anglia and the Isles of Scilly. We introduced them here in 2016 to foster the growth of their population and have bred them every year since.

These spritely birds are full of character and add an energetic level of fun to the area. When you stay with us, you’re likely to spot Boris (our friendliest Golden Pheasant) when he leaves his treetop roost to search for food.

DRIVEN BY SUSTAINABILITY

We’ve always been environmentally conscious and felt strongly about creating a business that supports the environment and ensures sustainability.

Since arriving at Church Manor Farm, we’ve installed solar panels, a wind turbine that produces lots of electricity, a ground source heat pump that supplies heating and solar thermal panels for hot water.
